  • Invoices. With the costume goes an invoice or receipt with terms and expectations fully spelled out. If it's not in writing up front and the deal goes sour, then it's the customer's word against yours. That's bad. It should include your return policy, how you define terms, etc. Be reasonable, but don't be too lenient. There are no state or federal laws governing what sort of policies you can set for your business so long as you don't break any laws in the process.
  • Terms and Conditions. Include a clause that says something like "Acceptance of the costume constitutes an acceptance of the terms contained in this document." The customer is not legally obligated to read the terms (nor are you obligated to read them to him) but the paper trail can be useful in case of a disagreement. If you have a website, put the terms there as well.
  • When butt-coverage just isn't enough...
