Frequently Asked Questions

Do you ship internationally?
No. To be honest, it effectively doubles our cost in time and frustration, so we stopped offering direct international shipping in July 2016. We recommend you use a mail forwarding service such as shipito, which provides a US shipping address and is often cheaper than having us ship it directly.    [35]

How long does it take to get my order?

It depends upon our workload. Ten to fourteen days if we have the dye in stock and we're not slammed with orders, longer if there are lots of orders in the queue, or we have to order in supplies, or build for a big event.

We prioritize our queue by deadline date, then order date. If you don't specify a deadline, we assume you don't have one and so your order may be pushed back indefinitely behind other orders with deadlines. We try very hard not to let an order sit for longer than thirty days, but it's been known to happen, particularly in the run-up to Labor Day weekend (KCRF, KCIF, etc).

I need my tights (shirt, belt, sporran, etc) in three days! I'll happily pay extra for faster shipping. Can you do it?

Nope. Here's why:

This isn't like shopping at Wal*Mart. There are no sweatshops or factories here. Each item we make is made by hand by one person; each pair of tights is dyed by hand, a process that takes just over five hours when you count all the trips through the washing machine and dryer. From there, the pieces are assembled start-to-finish by one person.

Even under the best of circumstances (i.e. we have no other orders; fabric and all dyes are in stock), it takes five days from the shopping cart to your door (unless you order off the rack). Usually it's longer - figure on 14-21 days - because while I'd like to tell you you're our only customer, I'm very grateful to say you're not, and someone else also has deadline. It's a rough ol' world.

We prioritize our queue by deadline date, then order date. If you don't specify a deadline, we assume you don't have one and so your order will be pushed back indefinitely behind other orders with deadlines. We try very hard not to let an order sit for longer than thirty days, but it's been known to happen, particularly in the run-up to Labor Day weekend (KCRF, KCIF, etc).

If you have a hard deadline, we will make every effort to meet it. If we can't, we'll let you know as soon as we know.

By logical extension, if we miss a deadline we don't know about...well, sorry. Your bad.

In any case, overnight shipping is $80 for one pair of tights to the lower forty-eight. No tights, not even ours, the best in the business, are worth $125 a pair.

Actually, we probably could do it. It would cost you, though. Hundreds of dollars. And fresh roasted coffee beans for life. And cookies.

    [34]

I live in the Kansas City area.  Can I come pick up my tights and save on shipping?

Short answer: no.

Long answer: No.  We conduct our business via email and this website.  Period.

Besides, with gasoline prices the way they are, shipping on a single pair of tights will cost you less than the cost of the gasoline it would take you to get here.

    [32]

Can I return my order if something isn't quite right?

For most of our products, yes, though there are exceptions. Please see our official policy here.

    [3]

How can I pay for my order?
Simple. Cash, cashier's check, money order, MasterCard or Visa. Cash, check, and money orders can be sent directly to SeamLyne after you place and confirm your order.     [4]

Color swatches?

Sure. Allow the same lead time as you would for tights, 10-14 days (though usually we keep scraps around for just this reason, and those ship within a day or two.)

    [5]

Your shirts only go up to XL. I need a {insert number here}XL. Can you make that size?
Yes, but I'll grumble out it. Above XL gets into extra fabric, so expect to pay more.    [33]

How do I get to your store?
You're already here. This is it. Right here. End of answer. Next?     [13]

Can I add a link to your site to my webpage? (Or, conversely, "Would Seamlyne add a link to my site?")

Anyone who wishes to may place a link to the Seamlyne website on their page. However, because linking implicitly endorses a site and we cannot control the content of other sites, Seamlyne does not link to the webpages of organizations or individuals with whom we do not have a Partnership Agreement. If you are a customer with an order or two in our system, and you need to find a product we don't carry, we'll be happy to point you in the right direction.

Think about it: would Target place a link to Wal*Mart on their pages?  Ah, well, there you go.

    [14]

I don't see any negative reviews. Afraid to publish them?
Well, you don't have to believe this, but we haven't actually gotten any negative reviews. If one should happen to come in, as long as it's fair and polite, we'll publish.     [15]

In your emails, you sign them "Bill Morris, Semster". You mean seamster, right?
Nope. The word is "semster", and comes from a real book, The Treatise For The Manufacture of Clothing: A Guide For The Semster, published in London in 1604.     [16]

I see the phrase "sumptuary laws" in your catalog from time to time. What does that mean?
Sumptuary laws are rules governing what you can and cannot wear at period events (though different events may have another name for them), and are based on practices dating as far back as the 12th century. For more information, click here.    [1]

Could you make me a dress just like the one Drew Barrymore wore in Ever After?
Yes, we could, but we won't.     [18]

Ok, I'm not Drew Barrymore. But I really like that dress ---
No.     [19]

But I'll just die if I can't get that dress ---

No. Death is your only option, here.
